Secure-the-building modes have been lifted at both Nokesville Elementary School and Brentsville District High School. All students and staff are safe. The secure-the-building protocol was implemented briefly during police activity in the area.

Library Hours
Monday-Thursday:  7 a.m.-3 p.m.; Friday 7 a.m.-2:15 p.m.

The Library is open to all students before school, during lunch, and after school.
It is THE place to come for research, to type or print papers, to just sit and read newspers, magazines, or books.

Philosophy/Mission

Working cooperatively with teachers and staff, the Brentsville District High School Library program strives to be an integral part of the school’s total instructional program.  It is designed to provide comprehensive support, instruction and materials to all students and staff.  Our mission is to enable our students to become independent and effective users of information.

 

Library Resources

 

Magazines/Newspapers

The latest issue of a magazine stays in the library.  Back magazine issues are stored on the shelves.  Daily newspapers can be found at the front desk. Back newspaper issues are located with the magazines.

 

Reference Materials

 One area of the library is reserved for reference materials.  These materials are for library use only.

 

Copy Machine

 A copy machine is available in the library for use at the cost of 10 cents per page.

 

Computers

Computes are for academic purposes.  After use, please return computers screen back to the desk top.

 

Printing

Students who do not come to the library with a class will be charged 10 cents per page for printing.  If you are with a class, there is no charge.

 

Electronic Resources

On the BDHS Web page go to Library you will find internet research links.  Some links require a password.  Bookmarks are available for resources that require a password at the circulation desk.

 

Policies

Visiting the Library
A pass is required to come to the library during school hours.  Student should sign in and out at the circulation desk.  Students coming before, after school and during lunch do not need a pass.  Students who plan to go to the cafeteria first, must obtain a pass from the library to be released from the cafeteria.

Checking out Material

In order to check out materials, you must use your student number.  Printed library materials (up to three) may be checked out for a three week period and may be renewed.  If a book is damaged please do not try to repair the book. Please bring this to the attention of the library staff.  YOU ARE RESONSIBLE FOR ALL ITEMS CHECKED OUT IN YOUR NAME.

 

Fines 

The library does charge fines for overdue materials. You are expected to return the materials in a timely manner.  Ten cents will be charged for every school day an overdue book or magazine is not returned.  The date an item is due is stamped on the card in the pocket at the back of the book.

 

Lost or Damaged Resources

If materials are lost or damaged, so that they may no longer be used, then the student is responsible for paying to replace the resource.  A current replacement cost including library processing will be assessed.  No one with overdue materials may check out additional items.

 

Suggestion Box 

The library contains resources selected to support the school’s instructional program.  It is a work in progress.  Staff and students are welcome to offer suggestions for the purchase of additional resources and materials.  To actively participate in the collection development, a suggestion box is located in the library for your convenience.

 

Public Library Cards

We strongly encourage our student to obtain a Prince William County Public Library card to have access to additional electronic resources that complement and expand our school library’s resources.  Public library electronic resources are available by remote use.  Applications for a public library card are available at the circulation desk.
